5 Things That Make Life Exciting: The Power of Gratitude & Visualization

Every so often, life gives us a simple but powerful reminder. Today’s reminder was: “Write out a list of 5 things that make you excited about life.”

At first glance, it might seem like just another self-help exercise. But there’s something transformative about slowing down, putting pen to paper (or notes to phone), and acknowledging what truly lights your soul on fire. It’s more than a list, it’s a practice in gratitude, a vision for your future, and a reminder of how far you’ve come.

Why This Matters

When you intentionally list the things that excite you, you’re training your mind to look for joy instead of stress, possibilities instead of problems. Gratitude isn’t just about appreciating what you have, it’s also about creating the energy to pursue what you want. Visualization works the same way: when you see it, feel it, and believe it, you make it real.

For me, life today feels brighter than it ever has. That wasn’t always the case. There was a time when the darkness had its grip on me, and I wasn’t sure I’d find my way out. But through persistence, faith, and the decision to keep going, I’ve found myself in a place where I can honestly say: I am happier than I’ve ever been. I’m excited about life in a way I once thought was impossible.

5 Things to Be Excited About

Here are five powerful examples anyone could use when making their own list, mixed with a personal touch of my own journey:

1. Family & Relationships

The laughter of a child, the comfort of a loved one, or the joy of building  a new connection. The bond I share with my son, is so important to me. He reminds me daily of the importance of love, patience, and leading by example.

2. Health & Fitness

Having the ability to move, train, and grow stronger is something many take for granted. I’m excited about pushing my limits in the gym, knowing that every rep strengthens not just my body but also my mind.

3. Passion & Purpose

Waking up with a mission bigger than yourself fuels the soul. My brand, The Keep Going Mentality, is more than a project, it’s my way of showing the world that no matter how dark life gets, there’s always a reason to rise.

4. Growth & Possibilities

Life isn’t static; it’s a journey of becoming. I’m thrilled about the future I’m building, stepping away from old paths, creating a new business, and carving out the life I’ve always envisioned.

5. Simple Joys

Sometimes it’s the little things: a morning coffee, a trip to target, a walk at night through town square, a sunrise, reading, having some tea or quiet moments of peace. These small, ordinary joys remind me that happiness doesn’t always come from big milestones, it’s often found in the details.

A Challenge for You

If you haven’t already, take a moment today to write out your own five. Don’t just think about them, see them, feel them, imagine them vividly. What would it look like to fully live those things out?

The more you practice this, the more life begins to shift. Gratitude becomes your foundation. Excitement becomes your fuel. And little by little, you realize you’re not just surviving anymore. You’re thriving.

Life is too short to let the darkness consume you. Choose the light. Choose gratitude. And most importantly, keep going.
