Finding Light in the Darker Months

Finding Light in the Darker Months

As the seasons shift and the days get shorter, it’s natural to feel your energy change. The sun doesn’t stay out as long, the mornings feel heavier, and that drive you had all summer might start to dim. This time of year, many people silently battle something deeper, seasonal depression.

You might find yourself wondering why it’s harder to get up early, why your mood feels off, or why you feel less motivated. But here’s the truth: you’re not broken. This is your body and mind responding to less sunlight, colder weather, and slower days. It’s okay to feel this way, but it’s also okay to fight back.

Awareness Is Power

The first step is recognizing it. Don’t ignore the shift. Acknowledge it. When you understand what’s happening, you take back control. You can start making small daily adjustments that bring light back into your life, literally and figuratively.

Stick to the Systems That Keep You Grounded

When the gloom sets in, your routines matter more than ever.

Keep journaling. Keep meditating. Keep moving your body. Keep practicing gratitude.

Even when you don’t feel like it, especially when you don’t, that’s when those systems will save you. Those are your anchors in rough waters. They don’t make the storm disappear, but they keep you steady until it passes.

Create Your Own Light

Open the blinds. Step outside, even for a few minutes of sunlight. Move your body to warm up your spirit. Spend time with people who bring out your best. Light candles. Play music that uplifts you.

This time of year, you have to be intentional about creating light. You can’t rely on the sun; you have to become your own source of warmth.

Give Yourself Grace

The colder months are not about perfection; they’re about persistence. Some days will feel heavier than others. Don’t beat yourself up for that. You’re human. What matters is that you show up for yourself in some way every day, even if it’s small.

Remember, the same sun that sets earlier now still rises tomorrow.

You may not always see it, but it’s there, and so is your strength.

So as the days get shorter and the world grows quieter, remind yourself:

You’ve made it through every season of your life so far.

This one won’t break you either.

Keep Going. Even when it’s dark. Especially when it’s dark.
